Enjoy nourishment in a fun food format – waffles! And what’s even better than regular waffles? Black Waffles! They pack the same amount of protein and fiber as my Chickpea Bread, it’s just much faster to make and maybe your (inner) child will be even more excited about eating nutrient dense food.

Little crispy on the outside, a tad chewy on the inside. It makes the perfect brunch essential… or just whip it up for a quick breakfast or for your child’s lunchbox (my kid loves it with some jam!). Once you make the batter – that takes 2 minutes – you can keep it in the fridge for 3 days in an airtight container for an even quicker breakfast. Just heat your waffle iron, pour batter, wait 4 minutes, and breakfast is ready!


Don’t have a waffle iron? No worries! Make them into pancakes!
The whole bag makes 9 larger (4-5 inch) waffles – with 7 grams of protein per waffle! – and 15-ish pancakes.


Whichever you choose to create from it, they will be not just deeply nourishing but satiating too. They will bring you a wonderful balance of Fat, Fiber and Protein, which are the three key building blocks to a satisfying meal that will maintain stable blood sugar for you, avoiding sugar/insulin spikes and crashes.
So why Charcoal you might ask? Well, you might have heard charcoal is a detoxifier. It binds to toxins in your gut and takes them out. Also, it looks really cool, right? 😉

Although I use a copious amount of organic chickpea flour to create this blend as well – the exact same as with the Chickpea Bread blend – to provide you with a nutrient-dense baked good, you will not notice the chickpea flavor! And the best part is that you can dress them sweet or savory. Our favorite way consuming it is with butter/ghee, fresh berries, and organic maple syrup. If you are craving something savory, try it as your good ol’ chicken and waffles or with avocados, sea salt, and a sunny side up egg.


As an added bonus they freeze really well. Sprinkle with a little water and toast up a frozen waffle or pancake in your toaster or in a cast iron pan on your stove (this is our favorite way) and you have a beautiful breakfast ready to be dressed up.

    Love, Love, Love them! Very easy to make. Made half of the bag to try them and had to prepare the remaining half to please my 3 year old and husband who wanted more!!! They are crunchy in the outside and fluffy inside. So many good choices go well with these. Just as an experiment I also made some pancakes just to see how they will come out in case I did not want to use the waffle maker next time and it worked perfectly.

    These charcoal waffles are FABULOUS! I have a daughter who cannot eat gluten so we are always on the lookout for great products. I met Katinka at a wellness event and brought a bag home for my daughter. When I saw her taking photos of the waffles (and asking me to buy more), I knew we had a winner.     Such a decadent way to eat breakfast! I’d never tried charcoal aside from an add-in with my smoothie and was pleasantly surprised that it was tasteless, but leant a nice deep shade to my waffles. I also appreciate the heart-healthy fiber and protein without gluten. Recommended!
