Public trust in the quality of official statistics is paramount. One way to secure trust is through compliance with the Fundamental Principles for Official Statistics and utilizing internationally established frameworks, tools and best practices. For example, governments can adopt up-to-date legal frameworks delegating coordination authority and responsibility to the National Statistical Office (NSO). They can also develop national strategies for developing official statistics. These can drive transformation towards better coordination, system-wide quality assurance, efficient data flows and modernized processes.
Countries lead the implementation efforts for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. And national statistical systems support other agencies and ministries by lending expertise or building capacity within those institutions.
