The Passive Cooling Strategies Community of Practice Inaugural Meeting is being convened under the project, “Passive Cooling Strategies for Sustainable Development in Cambodia,” which is led by the Ministry of Environment with implementation support from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The primary objective of establishing a Community of Practice is to foster knowledge sharing, learning, and cooperation in integrating passive cooling strategies into architectural and urban design practices to 1) provide thermal comfort to occupants, 2) lower cooling demand in buildings and 3) combat urban heat islands. The overarching aim is to reduce Cambodia’s cooling-related energy demand and emissions, thereby contributing to energy efficiency and emissions reduction targets contained within national policy and commitments under the Paris Agreement and Global Cooling Pledge.
