Statistics

Investment and User Engagement

Official statistics produced the national statistical systems are essential for policy- and decision-making. Therefore, investment in strengthening these systems is key for planning, as well supporting national strategies.

At the global level, governments have adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development  that, in turn, inform national development strategies. Governments have a chance to present their country’s progress through the voluntary national review system, where statistics plays a vital role.

The National Statistics Office engagement with relevant development stakeholders provides chief statisticians an opportunity to promote official statistics, increase demand and build mutual trust. In turn, national statistical systems better respond to user demands. With mutual trust, chief statisticians also create a favorable environment for advocating for resources matching user demands, which then enables statistical systems to better meet producer/user needs and support more informed policy.
