On 11 January 2019, ESCAP Executive Secretary Ms. Armida Alisjahbana held a bilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister of Thailand H.E. Don Pramudwinai to discuss complementarities between the ASEAN Vision 2025 and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Both exchanged ideas on finding space where the agendas and activities of ASEAN and ESCAP might converge. Ms. Alisjahbana reaffirmed ESCAP’s commitment to support Thailand in its pivotal role as ASEAN Chair for 2019. H.E. Pramudwinai also expressed Thailand’s support to ESCAP and the pivotal role it plays in strengthening the regional dimension of the 2030 Agenda.
During the bilateral meeting, Ms. Alisjahbana took the opportunity to brief the Foreign Minister on the Sixth Asia-Pacific Forum for Sustainable Development (APFSD) and 75th Commission Session, which will focus on the theme of “empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”. She further extended an invitation to H.E. Pramudwinai to deliver the opening address at the upcoming APFSD in March.
