Emerging Economic and Development Issues

Countries With Special Needs Economic Assessment and Sustainable Development

ESCAP supports the strategy that deepening economic integration and cooperation in the region could be mutually beneficial to all countries and instrumental in the achievement of key developmental goals.

Analysis of regional economic cooperation and integration issues is currently focused on four areas:

  • an integrated market;
  • seamless connectivity;
  • financial cooperation; and
  • addressing shared vulnerabilities and risks.

ESCAP emphasizes that a strategy for regional integration and cooperation in Asia and the Pacific should be mindful of the needs of the region’s least developed countries, landlocked developing countries and small island developing States.
