Access to electricity

Our Work supports upgrading technology, expansion of infrastructure, and improving policy mechanisms for supplying modern and sustainable energy service for all in the region.

Producing knowledge products on the long-term socio-economic impacts of global programmes and policies to support access to electricity in collaboration with relevant agencies.

Using the researches ESCAP hosts capacity building activities and provide subregional and national policy recommendations. This will result in greater capacity of member States to successfully advance energy access and enable ensuing socio-economic benefits in line with SDG7 in particular Target 7.1: By 2030 ensure universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services and other related Goals.

Electrification

Electricity is a fundamental input to socio-economic development. It is an essential input to the daily life for the majority of the global population. At the household level, electricity is critical for basic functions, such as lighting and the operation of appliances. It is needed to support livelihoods, education and well-being. With electricity, people are increasingly engaged in productive activities and public lighting in communities increases safety at night.
