The 80th Session of the Commission Side Event, titled "Accelerating financing for climate action: Progress across the Asia-Pacific region," will be hosted by Finland and co-sponsored by the Netherlands in conjunction with the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). This event is a follow-up to a similar side event held during the 78th Commission session in 2022. The focus will be on examining the perspectives of ESCAP member states regarding the possibilities and challenges of executing the Helsinki Principles in the region. Furthermore, the event will explore how regional cooperation and peer learning could help to expedite the financing of climate action.
The objective of the event is to establish the best practices by Ministries of Finance in the Asia-Pacific region for financing climate action. It aims to discuss the recommendations of the Independent High-Level Expert Group on Climate Finance for reforming the international financial architecture in the region and explore the potential and challenges in implementing the Helsinki Principles in the context of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. Additionally, the event will discuss the work of the Coalition and its synergies with the Independent High-Level Expert Group and ESCAP to further regional cooperation and accelerate climate finance.
