21 to 23 February 2024 | Open meeting

Climate Action Hub at APFSD11 (21 and 23 February 2024)
Detailed programmes will be announced on this page soon.

In this era of climate urgency, the Asia-Pacific region plays a unique role in climate action as both the largest emitter of greenhouse gases on one end and home to the highest number of people most vulnerable to climate shocks on the other. As such, the Asia-Pacific region stands at the forefront of global efforts to combat climate change and plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of our planet.

Given that SDG 13 on Climate Action is one of the Sustainable Development Goals under review at the 2024 High-Level Political Forum, ESCAP and the members of the UN Issues-Based Coalition on Raising Climate Ambition are organising a Climate Action Hub taking place during the 11th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) in the United Nations Conference Centre from Wednesday 21 February 2024 - Friday 23 February 2024.

The Climate Action Hub is a special exhibition space that serves as a hub for climate activists, innovators, and other climate change stakeholders to collaborate, innovate, and inspire action. The Climate Action Hub provides an opportunity to network, share and create or strengthen partnerships with other stakeholders from the region participating in the APFSD who are also committed to climate mitigation, adaptation and advocacy efforts.

Key individuals and organisations working on climate mitigation and adaptation solutions, innovations, and initiatives will be able to showcase their work and engage with government officials, UN agencies, international organisations, civil society, and the private sector.

Thematic scope:

• Electric mobility

• Climate smart agriculture and food systems

• Climate resilient/adaptive cities

• Natural ecosystem preservation (terrestrial, marine, and freshwater ecosystems)

• Just transition

Format:

Situated on the second floor of the UNCC building near Conference Room 2, the Climate Action Hub space could function as a dynamic, multimodal space for creativity and engagement. Depending on budget and capacity, the space could host:

  • Intimate and informal ‘ted-talk’ style discussions and presentations delivered by key individuals within the climate space during plenary session breaks. Talks could focus on issues related to climate justice, climate migration and displacement, land rights, etc.
  • Small viewing parties of mini-documentaries related to climate solutions and innovations from the region displayed on a TV screen.
  • An eye-catching, larger-scale project or innovative display developed by climate artists, private companies or innovators to raise awareness and foster curiosity and discussion.
  • It may also be possible to set up a few regular exhibition booths in the Climate Action Hub as well.
